Diosa Ixchel

En la mitología maya, Ixchel era un ser multifacético. A veces se le representaba como una mujer joven y a veces como una anciana, dependiendo de las fases lunares. Era patrona de los oficios relacionados con la concepción, el embarazo y el parto. También era diosa de la medicina, los textiles, la pintura, las aguas, el arcoíris, la noche y la fertilidad de la tierra. Esta gran versatilidad la estableció como una de las deidades de cabecera de los mayas. Aquí el texto íntegro de una de sus leyendas:
"Cuenta la historia que, en los días cuando los dioses aún eran mortales, existió un amor tan profundo y tan puro que su fuerza creó el sol y la luna, el día y la noche y el brillar de las estrellas.
Hace mucho tiempo, en una tierra lejana, vivía una bella joven llamada Ixchel, cuya belleza fascinaba a los hombres. Uno de ellos quedó prendido de sus encantos, de nombre Itzamná. La bella y codiciada joven se enamoró al instante de Itzamná, y un sentimiento puro y apasionado comenzó a nacer entre ellos. Un día soleado, en el paraíso de los mortales, llegó un extraño joven, quien al ver a Ixchel quedó flechado por su deslumbrante belleza.

In Mayan mythology, Ixchel was a multifaceted being. Sometimes she was depicted as a young woman and sometimes as an old woman, depending on the lunar phases. She was patron of the trades related to conception, pregnancy and childbirth. She was also the goddess of medicine, textiles, painting, waters, the rainbow, the night, and the fertility of the earth. This great versatility established her as one of the leading deities of the Mayans.
